We are seeking a Program Director to work with the Women’s Business Center at CEI. This position is based in Portland, Maine and serves clients throughout the southern part of the state with a mix of in-person and online offerings. This position will see clients in-person in surrounding counties to include Cumberland and York Counties. The Director works with women business owners by facilitating start-up, survival, and business expansion, providing business planning, management development, and assistance with preparing for and obtaining financing.

Who you are and what you’ll bring to this role:
The Program Director offers 1:1 business advising to women entrepreneurs. You’ll develop local partnerships and represents the Women’s Business Center and CEI within the communities we service. You will have a laser focus on developing meaningful relationships with people in marginalized populations, including female immigrant entrepreneurs, BIPOC and LGBTQA+ entrepreneurs, and female tech entrepreneurs. This includes developing collaborations with organizations who serve these communities. You’ll work with other WBC staff to organize and present workshops on a variety of business-related topics. You’ll manage communications and reporting to funders for the WBC.
While the role is based out of our Portland, Maine office, due to the COVID-19 pandemic our teams have shifted to working remotely from home. You will service clients throughout the southern part of state via remote technology and tools so you must have reliable internet access at home as part of the role requirements.
CEI continues to monitor the COVID-19 crisis. When it is safe to make the transition back to our offices, we will do so in compliance with federal and state CDC guidelines and with a specific plan in place that ensures the safety of our staff and clients.
Qualifications and skills:
Qualified candidates are knowledgeable in all aspects of business management, planning and business financing – especially relating to women in business; are client focused, professional, results-driven, excellent listeners and communicators, work collaboratively, are comfortable presenting in front of small and large groups, and are proficient with business and office software and technology.
Ideally candidates have a connection to women in BIPOC, immigrant and/or women in LGBTQ+ communities and / or organizations that serve these communities. Candidates must have a college degree, preferably in business management or significant related business and/or professional experience. An advanced degree, especially an MBA, highly desirable. Candidates should have a minimum of five years’ related business and/or transferable professional experience. Prior business ownership is also very desirable.
