HUMAN SERVICES COUNSELOR, CASE MANAGER

Health and Human Services Department – Social Services Division

–  Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week) position – Monday-Friday 8 am-4:30 pm – General Assistance Office/39 Forest Ave.

The selected candidate for this position will focus on assisting individuals accessing the General Assistance office with a variety of needs and requests.  The position will include working closely with various shelters and other agencies to connect clients to various resources within the community.  The goal of our general assistance employees is to assist with meeting the basic needs offered by the General Assistance office when a client is eligible, as well as directing to various community supports not offered through the General Assistance office.  The employee in this position works closely with individuals from all different backgrounds, in a bustling, multilingual office setting.

Other job duties include: Utilizing translator services to determine needs and communicate information, replying in a timely manner to emails and phone messages, scanning documents to file, making photocopies, accessing various databases and spreadsheets to obtain/update information as needed, creating cases within various databases and entering information as needed, triaging appointments when called for, greeting clients and marking them as present for their appointments, assisting with various data entry tasks, employment referrals when available, and assisting with all other tasks as requested by supervisor as needed within the scope of position.

Requirements: Excellent customer service skills, experience with homeless or low income/at risk individuals.  A positive attitude and ability to work as a team and independently, with a strong attention to detail is a must.   Experience with mental health issues, and other barriers to self-sufficiency preferred. B.A. degree in Social Services or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.  This position requires a valid Maine Class C driver’s license.  Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.

The position is a Pro-Tech union position – Grade 5 – $22.54/hour.
