ABOUT THE SEARCH
The Maine Connectivity Authority Board is conducting a national search at the Governor’s request to identify and recommend candidates for her consideration. The President role is nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the legislature for a renewable four-year term.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a candidate that is excited for the opportunity to find unique solutions to existing challenges. Someone who has skills in understanding the big picture but can translate that understanding to impactful action. This role will take good negotiating skills and an ability to navigate difficult conversations keeping the MCA goals in the forefront at all times. A strong financial background will be helpful as the MCA President will need to be able to read financial statements and understand the complexity of the capital stack and consider ways to utilize up front funding to reduce ongoing costs.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The President of the Maine Connectivity Authority will design and implement the process to leverage funding to achieve universal availability of affordable high-speed connectivity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Oversees and manages the strategy and execution of the Authority.
II. Oversee and manages the budget of the Authority and all required reporting and auditing
III. Oversees and manages interactions and maintain strong working relationships with contacts at the State and Federal levels as well as with the private sector, community leaders and other stakeholders.
IV. Assumes additional responsibilities as approved by the Board or its Executive Committee.
The President will be responsible for the oversight of MCA staff and contractors. As a new organization, the President will be instrumental in establishing the Authority’s needs and staffing appropriately.
The President will work under the oversight of the MCA board.
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The President of Maine Connectivity Authority is charged with:
Establishing and executing the major goals and objectives of the Authority by providing leadership, vision and guidance to its staff and clients;
Accelerating broadband connectivity and affordability to reach 95% of the state with a high quality affordable broadband connection by 2025;
Directing and overseeing the Authority’s short and long-term strategic plans, activities, programs, services and staff;
Representing the Authority to regulatory bodies, Legislature, Congress other agencies, community and civic organizations, donors, funders and supporters, the press and the general public. In this role, the President serves as an integral member of the Governor’s economic development team.
