Responsible for managing all aspects of material flow within the organization in an efficient, accurate and cost-effective manner. Responsible for maintaining inventory integrity by implementing systems, processes and controls that ensure inventory unit and valuation accuracy. Must work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders. Must support, train, supervise, motivate, coach, and evaluate members of the Newport Materials Team, which includes Shipping, Receiving, Material Handling, Non-Inventory Purchasing, and Inventory Control. This position is also responsible for working with Quality, Engineering, and Production.


  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects of material flow and product delivery within the organization.
  • Responsible for accurate  handling, transacting, counting of all materials, from delivery of raw materials and supplies to the factory, to being shipped out as finished product from the factory to 3PL partners and direct to customers.
  • Establish and implement  methods and best practices related to the systems and process that support  inventory, non-inventory purchasing, shipping, receiving, and material control.
  • Implement inventory cycle  count programs for Newport, identify root causes of variances and  implement corrective actions and revised processes to improve inventory accuracy.
  • Serve as a  SyteLine Subject Matter Expert for the Inventory, Purchasing, Shipping,  Receiving, and related modules, provide general advice and counsel on related topics, as needed, and leadership on project teams, if assigned.
  • Participate as a member of the Operations team in making cross-functional operational decisions.
  • Research and correct transactional errors. Analyze root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Responsible for accuracy of inventory counts by managing, in conjunction with Finance, the inventory control system, and must be capable of identifying discrepancies in inventory counts and taking corrective action to guard against  inconsistencies in the future.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and  healthy work environment by implementing, maintaining and aligning company policies that adhere to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations and internal housekeeping standards.
  • Coordinates routine cycle counting and physical inventories including variance analysis.
  • Plans and executes internal training programs to maintain and improve personnel competence.
  • Responsible for maintenance of and participates in the development of  material controls documentation and programs. Develop and ensure adherence to SOP’s for existing and new processes as required.
  • Assist with, plans for Domestic shipments, deals with shipping organizations and coordinates  on-time pickup and delivery of equipment or parts to Domestic customers.
  • Other duties as required.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management or other related discipline, preferred.
  • At least 5 years of  progressive experience in materials management/inventory control within a manufacturing or supply chain environment.
  • Experience in Total Quality, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Kanban, Lean Manufacturing, Toyota Production System or other similar environments preferred.
    Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP/APS systems and their use in a manufacturing  environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Syteline preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Maintain and provide current understanding of industry best practices and technology trends.
  • Leads by example and motivates people so as to create a challenging, empowering, and collaborative working environment.
  • Good technical writing,  documentation, and record keeping skills.
  • Good analytical problem solving ability.
