
Pete Hale is an experienced employment law partner at the law firm of Pierce Atwood LLP in Portland, Maine. Pete provides counsel and representation to employers on issues involving hiring, performance management, termination, wage and hour laws, restrictive covenants, workplace harassment, discrimination, and other evolving labor and employment issues. Pete also assists clients with issues concerning the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII, Fair Labor Standards Act, FMLA and state leave laws, non-competition and restrictive covenants, and employment agreements. Pete has successfully defended clients in a wide range of employment matters in litigation, and has tried several employment cases in court, arbitration, and before administrative agencies. Pete has also conducted numerous trainings and presentations on workplace accommodations, discrimination and harassment, mental health and neurodiversity, as well as proper hiring and retention practices in the workplace.
Before starting his law career, Pete served as a surface warfare officer in the U.S. Navy stationed on warships based in Italy and Virginia during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Pete earned his Bachelor’s Degree, magna cum laude, from The George Washington University, and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Boston University School of Law. Pete is a past-President of the Board of Directors of the Center for Grieving Children.
When he is not busy with his law practice, Pete loves to spend time with his two daughters, enjoys the outdoors running, golfing, and skiing, and is an accomplished oil painter.
